Band Corporal Dean Pavey was one of eleven musicians killed by an IRA bomb in Deal in 1989.
The Deal Barracks bombing was an attack by the IRA on the Royal Marine Depot in Deal. The bomb exploded at 8:22 am on 22 September 1989, in a recreation area just off Canada Road in Walmer, in what was then North Barracks.
Dean was a sportsman, a bassoonist and a father of two. He was just 31 years old.
Deal Museum is the proud custodian of many of Dean’s belongings, including his uniform cap and gloves. The bespoke cabinet housing Dean’s collection and other Royal Marines uniforms and artefacts was funded by The Royal Marines Charity and Deal Royal Marines Association.
