Mystery surrounds the story of Ratty and his missing brother.

This model scene contains a stuffed taxidermy rat (affectionately known as Ratty) surrounded by the trappings of a cobbler’s shop. Can you spot the pieces made from animal bones?

I smell a rat!

Ratty arrived in the Museum in the 1970s but probably dates from the Victorian period. Since making his home here, he has been linked with a Wratten family of cobblers in Broad Street and Skardon’s North Deal Band where one Wratten brother is said to have played the whistle and the other a fiddle. However, all of this is a mystery because we can’t find any record of Wrattens as cobblers, living in Broad Street, or even playing with the Skardon’s North Deal Band!

It has been rumoured that there is a taxidermy brother to our Ratty playing the fiddle. Do tell us if you find him, hear him play or discover anything about the Wrattens.
