Story or memory upload

The history stored in people’s experiences is often even more interesting than the ‘official’ stuff that’s written in the books. Lived experience is vitally important and we’d like to document it for posterity.

We recently started a correspondence with June Smedley who now lives in the Lake District and grew up in Deal after WWII. She shared wonderful details about her childhood and what was going on town at the time. It was a joy to read!

 

We’re seeking to capture memories from the people of Deal and visitors. Do you remember something interesting about Deal’s past? Even small details (who owned which shop, what was on at the cinema, who was the craziest person in town) helps to build a picture of times gone by. Let us know here:
